Description: This course focuses on scientific methods that are applied to the archaeological record in order to understand past human lives. Methods include geoarchaeology, taphonomy, radiometric dating, elemental and isotopic analysis, ancient proteins and DNA. Case studies cover applications of scientific methods to ancient materials including ceramics, metals, skeletal remains, and botanical remains. Labs offer hands-on experience and discussion of case studies. Cross-list: ANTH 503. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for ANTH 303 if student has credit for ANTH 503.
