Description: Covers selections of the New Testament Apocrypha, including the Gospels of Thomas, Judas, Philip, and Mary, the Acts of Paul and Thecla, and more. Learn what the early Christians were doing and thinking as regional lore emerged in the second and third centuries and Christian diversity and identities expanded. Graduate students enrolled in this course will submit a 7000 word research paper (compared to 5000 words for undergraduate students) and will complete a book review and additional readings in scholastic literature. Cross-list: RELI 450. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for RELI 550 if student has credit for RELI 450.
