Description: Rock physics, the study of the impact of rock microstructure, mineralogy, fluids, stress state, and diagenetic features on wave propagation in porous media. Understanding the use of such relationships for quantitative analysis of seismic datasets. Applications to geologic carbon storage, permafrost characterization, geothermal systems, and hydrogeology. Cross-list: EEPS 658. Recommended Prerequisite(s): Knowledge of applied geophysics, seismology, continuum mechanics, differential equations, and petrology will expand the value of the material. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for EEPS 458 if student has credit for EEPS 658.
