Description: Construction and analysis of numerical algorithms for root finding, interpolation and approximation of functions, quadrature, and the solution of differential equations; fundamentals of computer arithmetic; solution of linear systems, least squares problems, and eigenvalue problems via matrix factorizations; the singular value decomposition (SVD) and basic sensitivity analysis. Computer programming in MATLAB is required. This course covers fewer topics than CAAM 453 with greater theoretical depth. Prerequisite CAAM 501 may be taken concurrently with CAAM 553.
