Description: This course will consider European art from the long nineteenth century, looking in detail at the key movements and artists from this dramatic period of history. We will begin by placing Neo-Classicism in the context of the emergence of the French Revolution, while ending with the emergence of abstraction in the era of the First World War. In so doing we will also consider the varied art historical methods through which scholars have addressed the art of this period.
