Description: Beginning in the aftermath of the First World War, a conflict that devastated the physical and psychological landscape of Europe, and ending with the rise of various totalitarian regimes (Fascism, Stalinism) this seminar will examine European art of the interwar period, from 1918-1940. Potential topics will include Surrealism, The Russian avant-garde, the return to order, Esprit-Nouveau, the machine aesthetic, De Stijl, avant-garde cinema, etc. Cross-list: HART 575. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for HART 365 if student has credit for HART 575.
