Description: Readings from Alice Walker, Zora Neale Hurston, and others will help students address topics on female autonomy, gender roles, and identity in black rural and urban life in early-mid 20th century contexts, and thus, enable students to wrestle with intersectional experiences of black women within patriarchal societal contexts.
