Description: With a focus on the modern period, this seminar will examine iconoclastic theory and practice from antiquity to the present. Why, we will ask, have people so incessantly felt compelled to ban or destroy images, and what can this compulsion tell us about the nature of visual representation itself? Cross-list: HART 606. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for HART 406 if student has credit for HART 606.
