Description: Seminar examines contemporary slavery and human trafficking in global historical context. It examines forms of gendered unfree labor that persisted after the legal abolition of slave trades and slavery. It explores the emergence of human rights discourse, activism, and law from the 19th century onwards. Houston is the contemporary case study.
