Description: This class will be a hands-on research experience to explore the meaning and uses of "the underground and the subterranean" across diverse communities. Students will review existing academic literature and artistic forms of expression that explore the meaning of the underground of r scientists, activists, artists, and everyday citizens. Students will also conduct fieldwork (interviews and participant observation) with Houston communities to understand what practices bring people close to that which is not immediately visible.
