Description: The course will examine the theory of environmental determinism, focusing on the role of geography in the rise and fall of historical civilizations. Students will read and evaluate excerpts from Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs, and Steel and Collapse, and scholarly articles by prominent cultural evolutionists.
