Description: Course examines the political, institutional, military, and cultural development of the societies that successively dominated the "Middle Sea" from AD 500-1500 in Europe and the Islamic World. It highlights the Mediterranean legacy of commercial, cultural, and religious exchange and coexistence, as well as its history of confrontation and warfare. Cross-list: MDST 205.
