Description: This seminar will explore critical issues surrounding the careers of John Constable and J.M.W. Turner, arguably the greatest landscape painters of the early 19th century. We will look at both similarities and differences in the work of these two rivals, while considering their work in the context of great historical change in England. Graduate students will be requried to do additional reading in addition to those already assigned. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for HART 547 if student has credit for HART 357.
