Description: This seminar will look in detail at three of the twentieth century's most important artists: Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, and Andy Warhol. Our central focus in doing so will be painting, in particular, the means by which these three artists tested, expanded or even "destroyed" the medium. What did it mean to make (or reject) painting in 1910, 1950, and 1965? Special attention will be paid to recent scholarly literature and close looking at works in local collections. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for HART 334 if student has credit for HART 546.
