Description: For medieval Christians, the heavenly vision was reserved for the elect after death; seeing God while living was theologically impossible. Nevertheless, many had divine experiences, visual or not. This course looks at records of such experiences, exploring how they were negotiated theologically. Graduate students do additional reading, write longer assignments.
