Description: Focusing on the tumultuous years of the Weimar Republic, this class will examine art and film in Germany from the birth of Expressionism through the end of the Nazi dictatorship. Topics covered will include Expressionism, Dada, the Bauhaus, and Fascist aesthetics. Particular attention will be paid to the relations between aesthetics and politics and art and everyday life, all central concerns of the art and criticism of the period. Cross-list: GERM 339.
