Description: This course will consider the emergence and flourishing of Romanticism in the visual arts in Europe. We will consider artists from France, Germany and Britain, including Eugene Delacroix, J.M.W. Turner, John Constable and Caspar David Friedrich. We will combine study of paintings with readings of contemporaneous philosophers and writers, including Hegel and Byron. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for HART 354 if student has credit for HART 554.
