Description: This course will explore how bioengineering techniques and principles are applied to understand and model sensory systems, with a focus on the auditory, vestibular, and visual systems. The interaction between the electrical, mechanical and optical aspects of these systems, and ways to modulate these interactions, will be explored. The course will also cover the design of current auditory, visual and somato-sensory neuroprosthetics (i.e. cochlear- implants, retinal implants and brain-machine interfaces), as well as emerging technologies for neural stimulation. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for BIOE 592 if student has credit for BIOE 492.
