Description: This seminar will focus on the brownfield. As defined by the EPA a brownfield is "real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant." We will look at actual brownfield sites, but the focus of the seminar will not adhere to an orthodox interpretation, and the emphasis will be on re-use. The course will examine how pubic policy, development, real estate law, socio-economics and politics - all contribute consequences in the manufacture of "complications" to the built environment.
