Description: A study of Chinese in mostly Classical Chinese texts. Prose and poetry are examined for linguistic structure and cultural symbolism. Diachronic linguistic perspective and cultural comparison are adopted. Taught in English, but prior experience of two years of Chinese required. A required course for students in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Cross-list: CHIN 331.
