Description: This course focuses on some of the central aspects of first language acquisition. Topics include statistical learning; the use of special kinds of input modification ('motherese') ; how children's grammatical, lexical-semantic, and phonological systems develop; the critical period hypothesis ; and language development in the absence of a conventional model ('home sign').
