Description: This introductory course examines the complex relationship between art and religion in China (4th - 19th centruries). Through an analysis of painting, sculpture, cave temples, steles, manuscripts, talismans, illustrated prints, and primary souces, we will explore the visual, religious and cultural dimensions of Buddhism and Daoism, and the fluid nature of Chinese culture.
