Description: Seminar examines the legal position and social realities of men and women in the Islamic world, with emphasis on how boundaries of gender have traditionally been drawn. Includes family and sexual ethics, the harem, polygyny, divorce, and eunuchs (who played an important role in the military and certain religious institutions). Cross-list: MDST 438, WGST 455.
