Description: Survey of Latin America from 1492 to the 1820's, including the European background and major New World indigenous civilizations. Primary focus on the region's economy, society, culture and politics by examining pre-Columbian societies, impact of conquest and colonization, colonial political economy, slave systems and indigenous peasantries, and the collapse of Iberian colonialism.
