Description: Introduction to the Middle East from the rise of Islam to the middle of the 16th century. Topics include conquests and classical Islamic states, Arabization, Jewish and Christian communities, impact of Turkic peoples, and the Ottoman Empire, with emphasis on social, cultural, political, and religious trends which shaped the region's history.
