Description: Sacred texts and the visual arts have contributed immeasurably to shaping individual and collective conceptions of the spiritual in modern and postmodern culture. This course will examine a range of aesthetic and hermeneutic traditions, including mystical texts, modernists artworks and related museum exhibitions, in order to consider the ways in which the experiences of reading, writing, and viewing can serve as powerful acts of self-creation. Cross-list: RELI 362, RELI 502.
