This course will consider different representations of "the people" from the inceptions of U.S. and Latin American independence to twentieth-century approaches to populism. Readings include Jefferson, Bolivar, Emerson, Marti, Diego Rivera, WPA art, Neruda, Peron, MLK, Menchu. Taught in English.
