Description: CASE STUDIES IN ANCIENT AND MEDIEVAL ARCHITECTURE

This course offers an introduction to the history of western art and architecture through weekly case studies of some of the most important public and private buildings in antiquity and the Middle Ages: from the Parthenon to a Roman house, Carnavan Castle to Chartres Cathedral. Topics explored throughout the course include the construction of imperial authority, ritual and the formation of space, and the relationship between structure and design. This course is offered in alternate years with HART 101.
