Description: This course, part of the Rice in Korea program, focuses on developing advanced conversational competence in Korean through immersive experiences uniquely available in Korea. Students will engage in pragmatic and conversational tasks that leverage the local context, including interactions with host families, shopkeepers, local students, and language consultants affiliated with the host institute. These experiences will offer opportunities to practice interactions using varied speech registers and culturally informed language practices, such as relative honorifics, while navigating societal role differences. This course is part of the Rice in Country program and is not eligible for audit.
