Description: How does history shape our urban present? What do cities owe their human and non-human residents? How are our cities adapting amidst climate change? Students will learn major developments in the history and theory of urbanism to understand contemporary debates regarding space, place, and participation in city life. Using Houston as a case study, we will investigate how climate change is exacerbating challenges for cities and ways of addressing new threats. Students will develop a research-based final project tied to a specific place and challenge.
