Description: This course will introduce students to queer ecology, where the study of gender and sexuality intersects with environmental studies. Students will learn to define and deconstruct the words that naturalize critical cultural, political, and environmental categories such as human, biological, queer, trans, animal, natural, toxic, pure and deviant. Through analysis of case studies from ecology, environmental history, infrastructure, and popular culture, we will explore the co-importance of queer ecology to our understanding of biology, race, colonialism, economics, futurity, (dis)ability, and other topics.
