Description: Develops an advanced quantitative framework for electrochemical systems in environmental and chemical engineering, including equilibrium potentials, interfacial kinetics, ion and membrane transport, current distribution, porous electrodes, and reactor performance. Applications include water and chlor-alkali electrolysis, electrodialysis and BMED, electrosorption/CDI, and electrodeposition. Graduate students derive constitutive relations and implement and critically evaluate coupled nonlinear models. Cross-list: CEVE 422, CEVE 522, CHBE 422. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for CHBE 522 if student has credit for CHBE 422.
