Description: This course examines the cultural consequences of financial crisis in post-dictatorship Latin American societies, exploring how an economic collapse shapes and is shaped by artistic and cultural imagination. Through a diverse corpus of primary works including literature, film, and television, students will engage with the ways in which cultural artifacts have represented, processed, and contested the aftermath of financial debacles: the social fractures it produces, the political discourses it generates, and the everyday lives it transforms. Students will also work with theoretical texts drawn from political economy, cultural studies, and critical theory to analyze the relationships between finance, power, and representation in Latin American contexts.
