Description: Modern democracy rests on the conviction that we are or are to be made equally free. Yet while this premise is shared across democratic theory, what equality actually demands is fiercely contested. This course examines the liberal, republican, and social democratic conceptions of equality, together with the contemporary debates they have shaped. Cross-list: PLST 375.
