Description: This course explores Spain’s architectural landscapes during the period of Islamic presence, ca. 700–1500. We examine iconic monuments such as the Great Mosque of Córdoba and the Alhambra, analyzing their formal and experiential features in light of their environmental contexts and poetic descriptions. The course also considers patterns of hybridity and cross-cultural exchange in the Jewish and Christian architecture of medieval Spain.
