Description: This course explores the profound and yet oftentimes overlooked connections between Asia and Latin(x) America. We study the cultural impact of the Manila galleon trade (the first commercial link between Asia and the Americas, which lasted from 1565 to 1815), modern and contemporary travel narratives, the rise of Asian diasporic literature from Latin America, as well as various intersections of Asian and Latin American cuisine and music. Taught in Spanish.
