Description: This course provides a broad exploration of large-scale service systems using data analytics, stochastic models, optimization and simulation techniques. In particular, through the data collection, preparation, visualization and analysis, students will understand the demand and service processes. Through the optimization and stochastic models and simulations, students will formulate decisions problems to determine optimal capacity (workforce and other resources) and resource allocations to meet the in the long-term and short-term horizons. Applying these modeling and analytical techniques and tools, students will conduct case studies in modern service systems such as healthcare, on-demand service systems, transportation and recreational services.
