Description: This course surveys the evolving category of transgender in global context with a specific focus on the United States. Drawing on medicine, history, law, anthropology, cultural studies, women’s studies, and sexuality studies, participants will explore the contested meanings of “transgender” and related terms like “non-binary” and “gender non-conforming.” Recommended Prerequisite(s): SWGS 101 or SWGS 201.
