Description: This course gives first- and second-year students the opportunity to engage directly in sociological research with Rice University faculty. Built around faculty-led projects, the class emphasizes collaboration with peers and guidance from the instructor. The course has three main components. First, students will be introduced to the goals and philosophical foundations of sociological research. Second, they will learn about the research approach of one or two Rice sociology professors. Finally, students will gain practical experience by contributing to specific stages of faculty research projects. The class is designed to be lively, friendly, and collaborative. No prior research experience is required.
