Description: This course covers key concepts and their relationships to Latin American and Iberian cultures through a slow, close, and contextualized reading of Gabriel García Márquez’s Cien años de soledad. The main objective of the course is to introduce students to historical, geographical, and political aspects using different approaches of literary and cultural analysis. In addition to the novel, we will consider other forms cultural production, including essays and visual art, and we will complete the course discussing the novel’s recent adaptation for television.
