Description: There was a spectacular flowering of Russian culture in the aftermath of the death of Czar Nicholas I (1825-55). Ushered in was a relatively liberal ear which, combined with a powerful natural upsurge, yielded a period of remarkable creativity - noted especially in this course by Russian music. this interdisciplinary course will couple the historical and musical threads of Russian culture from the death of the aforementioned Romanov Czar until the end of World War I and the outbreak of the Russian Revolution.
