Description: Inaugurated against the calamitous backdrop of the First World War, "Dada," the artist Francis Picabia claimed, "smells of nothing, it is nothing, nothing, nothing." This seminar will examine the aesthetics of shock and nihilism (literally, 'nothingness'), developed by Dada in six cities: Zurich, Berlin, Colgne, Hannover, New York, and Paris. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for HART 386 if student has credit for HART 586.
