Description: Intensive writing course examines the modern history of Iraq from 1914 to the present. Topics include the nation-making project in international contexts, sectarian vs. secular interpretations of Iraqi policies, the relationship of militarism and democracy, media and modern war, and the social, economic, and political crossroads of Iraq's precarious present and immediate future.
