Description: Using local archives on and off campus, students in this advanced undergraduate seminar will conduct original research on a topic in Houston history, from the city's earliest origins to its recent past, including the history of Rice University. Assigned common readings will introduce students to existing scholarship on the history of Houston (one of the nation's largest cities) to provide a context for archival research. Emphasis will be placed on conceiving and writing a substantial term paper based on the student's archival research. Not recommended for first-year students.
