Description: ART HISTORY IN ACTION: OBJECT-BASED LEARNING AT THE MFAH is jointly taught by faculty from the University of Houston and curators and conservators from the Museum of Fine Arts and researchers from the International Center for the Art of the Americas (ICAA-MFAH). The course closely examines the Latin American art collection and archival documents housed at the MFAH, in order to familiarize the student with key questions and investigative strategies in the field of modern Latin American art and general curatorial and museum studies. The course is based on the close examination and analysis of objects, artworks and documents. Students will be trained in the processes scholars and curators use to productively examine objects. No previous experience with Latin American art is assumed. Reading ability in Spanish is helpful but not required. The course meets every week at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.
