Description: LANGUAGE AND CULTURE OF HISPANICS IN THE UNITED STATES ***** The linguistic aim of this course is to consolidate an advanced level of proficiency in bilingual students. The course will also explore issues of the cultural identity of Spanish speakers, by studying various manifestations of Hispanic culture in the U.S., as expressed in movies, documentaries, Spanish-language TV, periodicals, short stories, novels and drama. The course will be based on the study of Hispanic culture in U.S., from three different viewpoints: historical, literary and sociolinguistics. ***** Prerequisite(s): SPAN 303, placement test, or permission of instructor. ***** Enrollment limited to 20.
