Description: COMPUTATIONAL NEUROSCIENCE ***** Introduction to the nervous system is given including the electrophysiology of nerve and muscle cells, synaptic transmission and sense receptors. The theory underlying Hodgkin-Huxley type models of excitable cells is discussed, and several examples of models for neurons, muscle cells, and synapses are used as case studies. Modeled neurons are interconnected using synaptic models to form functional representations of small neural networks. At all levels, comparisons are made with experimental data. Course provides an introduction to biological modeling and computation. ***** Also offered as BIOE 481. Cross-list: BIOE 481.
