Description: TOPICS IN THE 19TH AND 20TH CENTURIES ***** Advanced study in selected topics in music history of the 19th and 20th centuries. Enrollment is limited to 15.Topic for Spring 04: French Opera. An exploration of selected works in the various subcategories of nineteenth-century French opera, and an examination of how the commercial and artistic contexts in which these works were created led to various compromises between opera as art and opera as profit-producting entertainment. Repeatable for Credit.
