Description: France and the Near East in the eighteenth century: from the literary obsession with the "1001 Nights" to Napoleon's political and scientific expedition to Egypt. Readings include works by Galland, Montesque, Voltaire, Volney, Al-Jabarti, Diderot and Raynal.
