Description: BIOENGINEERING DESIGN ***** This Bioengineering Design course is intended for senior undergraduate bioengineering students interested in the design of a device or process relevant to application in biotechnology, medicine, or related bioscience-based practice. This is a project based course with group projects related to bioengineering topics. A brief overview to systematic design, biological interface, economics, FDA requirements and safety and ethics will be given. Lectures will also be provided by other Professors from Rice University, the neighboring Texas Medical Center, as well as collaborating scientist from industry providing a wealth of information and expertise on venture capital, SBIR funding, and intellectual property rights etc. Students will be introduced to compiling concise documentation on progress of their team and on communicating effectively to others. Classes will be a combination of didactic instruction, seminar reading group discussion, and device/design analysis.
